CaregiverOne
An accountable caregiver workflow designed to turn simple care requests into clear responsibility and action.
CaregiverOne began with a simple observation: many caregiver communication systems are good at notifying people that help is needed, but notification alone does not establish who is responsible for responding.
I developed CaregiverOne as a physical and digital system for closing that gap.
At the center of the concept is a purpose-built four-button device that allows a care recipient to communicate essential needs—PAIN, BATHROOM, WATER, and COMFORT—without navigating an app, touchscreen, or complex interface. Each interaction is intentionally reduced to a clear physical action that can be used by people with limited mobility, dexterity, speech, or technical ability.
But the device is only the beginning.
Behind each request is an accountable workflow that assigns the request to a specific caregiver, requires that person to accept or decline responsibility, and automatically escalates the request when no response is received. Instead of broadcasting a notification and assuming someone will act, CaregiverOne maintains explicit ownership until responsibility is established.
The resulting lifecycle is straightforward:
Request → Assignment → Acknowledgment → Escalation → Resolution
This same architecture can extend beyond requests initiated by the physical device. Care events generated by remote patient monitoring, connected devices, AI systems, nurse-call platforms, or other healthcare infrastructure can enter the same workflow, creating an accountability layer between detecting a need and ensuring someone takes responsibility for it.
Product Development
I developed CaregiverOne from the initial problem definition through interaction design, physical device concepts, system architecture, workflow logic, technical documentation, and intellectual-property development.
The work required thinking about the product as a complete system rather than simply designing an interface: the physical interaction available to the care recipient, caregiver communication, assignment and escalation logic, acknowledgment states, connectivity, failure conditions, and the operational record created as each request moves through the system.
The guiding principle throughout the project was simple:
Simplicity for the care recipient making the request. Accountability for the caregiver responding.
CaregiverOne is patent-pending intellectual property developed through Skuse Labs LLC and is currently available for acquisition or strategic licensing.
